That's got to be a bitter pill for West Ham to swallow after they fought their way back to 2-2 with 10 men.
90' +3
Penalty goal scored by C. Austin for Southampton!
HE'S DONE IT! Substitute Austin coolly strokes home the penalty, sending Joe Hart the wrong way to snatch back all three points for Southampton.
90' +2
Zabaleta goes into the book for that costly push on the Japanese defender.
PENALTY! Southampton have a chance to win it after Zabaleta pushes over Yoshida inside the area. What drama late on here!
90' +1
P. Zabaleta gets yellow.
We're into three minutes of injury time here on the south coast, where a Cedric cross to the back post has been clawed away by Hart. Southampton are in possession and probing for a winner.
90'
WOODWORK! Redmond nearly makes amends for some poor passages of recent play by thrashing a good strike against the crossbar.
89'
Approaching the final minute of normal time now and Redmond has wasted an opportunity for Southampton, playing a heavy pass in behind the West Ham defence which Betrand can't stop from going behind for a goal kick.
88'
DISALLOWED! Tadic heads the ball into the back of the net, but Bertrand had already committed a clumsy and obvious foul in the form of barging Joe Hart out of position.
87'
It was headed away with ease by Yoshida and falls to Tadic, who looks to pick out Shane Long. But Obiang, who has done really well since coming on, breaks up the attack.
86'
West Ham have a free-kick on half-way and can put a ball into the box.
85'
Tadic finds himself in position to put in a good cross on the right flank, but his effort is too deep, beyond the reach of any Southampton player. It's a goal kick to West Ham.
Neither side is proving able to keep the ball for long here, as the conclusion to this game becomes stretched and nervy.
Minute
Description
84'
Mark Noble has a go from range, firing his effort into the body of Yoshia, and Southampton can break.
83'
Redmond dwells in possession just inside the Saints half and is robbed by Zabaleta.
82'
WASTED! Cedric Soares got into the box down the right, but his heavy touch allowes Obiang to clear for a corner. Yoshida should have stabbed home from the resulting set-piece, but he can't quite get a boot on it.
80'
C. Austin enters the game and replaces M. Gabbiadini.
S. Long enters the game and replaces S. Davis.
Gabbiadini's second half has been quieter than the first and he is taken off in favour of powerful centre-forward Charlie Austin.
The influential Davis is sacrificed for the pace and goalscoring instinct of Shane Long with less than 10 minutes of normal time to go.
Redmond has a pop from outside the area. Hart dived but wasn't troubled, keeping his hands clear of the ball and it's behind for a goalkick. Is there a winner in this one for either of these teams?
78'
Clever from Sakho there, who draws a foul from Yoshida inside the West Ham to gain possession and ease the pressure on his team following yet more good work by Tadic and Ward-Prowse.
77'
Another West Ham chance! Who else but Chicarito again, who steers the ball just wide of the target after escaping the attentions of the Southampton backline.
76'
Pedro Obiang enters the game and replaces D. Rice.
Youngster Declan Rice has done well on his full Premier League debut, but he makes way as Pedro Obiang comes on for the climax to this game.
74'
West Ham aren't done yet. Chicharito managed to swing a good cross into the centre of the box from out wide on the West Ham left and Fernandes heads unchallenged wide of the post.
GOOOALLLL! West Ham have done it! It's 2-2! They've barely had a sniff in this half but it's a well-worked equaliser. Cresswell sends in a good cross from the left, Sakho heads it down towards the goal and Chicharito is there to smash home the rebound with an emphatic first-time finish. Two goals from the newcomer and he's already repaying his fee!
73'
J. Hernández has scored a goal for West Ham United!
The sub then sends in a good delivery from the set-piece, but it's scrambled clear by West Ham after falling beyond the reach of Hart.
71'
Ward-Prowse's first major involvement sees him burst down the right and earn a corner, Cresswell having blocked it behind.
69'
About 20 minutes of normal time remaining at St Mary's, where clear chances have been at a premium in the second half.
68'
D. Sakho enters the game and replaces M. Antonio.
E. Fernandes enters the game and replaces A. Ayew.
Ayew makes way for Edimilson Fernandes.
Perhaps seeking to preserve him from a recurrence of his injury, Bilic takes off Antonio and introduces Diafra Sakho.
67'
Southampton are dominating possession and dwelling on the edge of the West Ham box. Ryan Bertrand saw plenty of the ball down the left and got into the box twice, but couldn't get a delivery into the middle and it's cleared by the Hammers. Here come those West Ham subs.
66'
West Ham are also readying some changes as Bilic seeks to orchestrate an escape act.
65'
J. Ward-Prowse enters the game and replaces M. Lemina.
James Ward-Prowse has replaced Lamina and will take up a role on the right flank, with Tadic moving to the middle and Davis dropping deeper.
64'
Cresswell delivers a free-kick from deep and Fonte meets it, but the header from the Portuguese centre-back sails harmlessly wide of Forster's goal.
62'
SAVE! Tadic gathers possession on the edge of the area after a Saints corner is cleared by Hart's punch. The Serbian forward beats his man, cuts inside and fires off a shot on target that is kept out by the former Manchester City goalkeeper.
61'
And up the other end, Chicharito has a pot shot of his own. It's from long range too but is more of a dipper, bouncing wide of Forster's post.
60'
After admonishing them for not taking the initiative, Saints have indeed started to push forward with more purpose. Tadic gets down the right flank again but his cross is headed clear by Zabaleta.
CHANCE! Gabbiadini took possession well outside the West Ham box and unleashed a thunderbolt that had Joe Hart beaten and cannoned off the bar. What an effort and what a goal that would have been.
57'
Southampton stroke the ball around with West Ham sitting deep. The Saints push it through the middle and Gabbiadini tries a flick to play in Redmond, but the danger is snuffed out by Aaron Cresswell's tackle. A narrow escape for West Ham!
56'
Approaching the 60-minute mark and Southampton need to get hold of this game. They're a goal and a man up, but have struggled to impose themselves early in the second half.
55'
The replays are showing that perhaps West Ham had more of a case than first appeared, but referee Mason was unsighted. Not the best positioning there from the man with the whistle.
54'
PENALTY APPEAL! The West Ham players and away fans want a spot-kick following Antonio's long throw. It's headed down by Ayew toward Stephens and the ball does perhaps strike his arm, but it would have been a really harsh call.
53'
Cedric shoots well wide to waste a good Southampton counterattack and, at the other end, West Ham return fire. Forster is required to claw the ball behind for a corner with Antonio lurking dangerously.
51'
The resulting free-kick comes to nothing, but the visitors are enjoying a good spell of possession here, despite being a man down following the sending off of Arnautovic.
50'
Lemina challenges Antonio and the West Ham man, just back from injury, comes off worse. He's holding his hamstring as he limps away.
49'
Southampton work a corner short, Tadic lays it off for Davis, whose cross to the back post goes wide without threatening the West Ham goal.
47'
Tadic crosses from the right flank after being found by Davis, but his delivery is easily gathered by Joe Hart, who launches it up field.
46'
The teams are back out for the second half and Lee Mason is set to get things back underway...
The 10 men of West Ham kick things off in the second half at St Mary's.
45' +2
Poor Fonte is having a shocker back on his old stomping ground, floating an aimless pass forward and well beyond the reach of his attacking team-mates to bring a promising period of play to a close for West Ham.
45'
BACK IN IT! Against the run of play, West Ham have made it 2-1. Michail Antonio turns and shoots from outside the box. Fraser Forster can only parry it and Javier Hernandez, the poacher extraordinaire, is on hand to follow up and open his Premier League account for West Ham.
44'
J. Hernández has scored a goal for West Ham United!
42'
CHANCE! Davis, who has been pulling the strings for Southampton late in this half, gets to a loose ball ahead of Fonte and shoots wide from close range. He should have done better with that opportunity.
41'
Tadic slips in Cedric after mesmirising the West Ham defence and a corner is conceded. The visitors are under siege now here!
40'
A rare spell of West Ham possession ends in a Southampton counterattack and the Saints are probing for a third, Nathan Redmond with a shot blocked on the edge of the Hammers' area there.
38'
Penalty goal scored by D. Tadić for Southampton!
Tadic makes it 2-0 from 12 yards out. His effort from the spot wasn't the best, sent low down the middle and catching the feet of goalkeeper Joe Hart, but it nestles in the back of the net regardless.
36'
It's all going wrong for West Ham now! Up against his former side, Jose Fonte has given away a penalty after a blatant tug on Steven Davis!
34'
What on earth was the former Stoke City man thinking? He clearly caught Stephens and it was such a needless moment of aggression. He's really left his team with a mountain to climb now, they're already 1-0 down...
33'
M. Arnautović goes off after a red card!
Zabaleta with a throw-in down West Ham's right.
RED! Arnautovic elbows Stevens and it's a simple decision for referee Lee Mason. West Ham's star signing is heading for an early bath.
32'
Ayew takes a free-kick quickly but loses possession.
25'
The Hammers are trying to press back into the game, but the Saints are holding them bay with relative ease for now.
23'
Antonio threatens from a corner as he turns to meet Arnautovic's delivery, but he cannot force his effort on target.
22'
West Ham apply pressure with a couple of deliveries into the box, but between Stephens and Yoshida they manage to clear the danger.
20'
Space opens up for a strike from distance for Redmond, but he cannot generate any power on his strike, allowing Hart to make a comfortable save.
18'
Zabaleta stands up a cross to the back post and Antonio attacks the ball with a header, but it lands tamely into the grasp of Forster.
16'
The Hammers work the ball on the edge of the box before Noble lifts it towards the back post. Hernandez and Cedric challenge for the ball, but it goes straight out for a goal-kick, with the West Ham forward not happy with the referee.
15'
D. Tadić gets yellow.
Tadic wipes out Hernandez on the left flank and goes into the book.
13'
West Ham are on the back foot here and have not got going thus far. They need to hold their composure as they cannot afford to go two goals behind.
11'
M. Gabbiadini has scored a goal for Southampton! Assist by N. Redmond.
Redmond surges forward before picking out the run of Gabbiadini, who finds the net.
GOALLLLL!!!!! GABBIADINI STRIKES! Southampton take the lead as Redmond slides a throughball into the path of the forward, and he makes no mistake beating Hart with a low left-footed effort across his body into the bottom corner. A fine start to the match for the Saints.
8'
Southampton move the ball with pace down the right flank, but Cedric can only send his cross into the side-netting.
6'
West Ham are attempting to control the early temp, with Noble, Rice and Ogbonna seeing a lot of the ball in the early stages.
4'
A slow start to the contest as both sides are eyeing each other up by passing the ball around at the back.
2'
An early touch for Lemina as he lifts the ball forward into the box, but Fonte clears the ball away with ease.
Hernandez collects the ball in a dangerous position in the final third and raids with menace at Yoshida. However, the defender dispossesses the Mexican and brings the ball to safety.
The team news has been announced and we'll start with the home side.
West Ham endured a nightmare start to the campaign, suffering a 4-0 hammering at the hands of Manchester United. The Hammers were in the contest for the majority of the match, but a late collapse saw them end the first week of the term on the bottom of the table.
Southampton began their campaign last week with a goalless draw against Swansea City. The Saints were frustrated by Paul Clement's men and Mauricio Pellegrino will want to see a much more clinical outing from his team this week.
Good afternoon and welcome to the live commentary of the Premier League clash between Southampton and West Ham United at St Mary's Stadium.
WEST HAM UNITED (4-2-3-1): Hart; Zabaleta, Reid, Fonte, Cresswell; Rice, Noble; Ayew, Antonio, Arnautovic; Hernandez.
West Ham subs: Obiang, Adrian, Sakho, Masuaka, Byram, Fernandes, Ogbonna.
Southampton have made one change from their draw against Swansea. Club record signing Mario Lemina comes into the side to replace James Ward-Prowse, who drops to the bench. Virgil van Dijk remains unavailable for selection, leaving Jack Stephens and Maya Yoshida to continue in the heart of the back four.
Slaven Bilic hands midfielder Declan Rice his first Premier League start this afternoon. The 18-year-old plays alongside Mark Noble in front of the back four in one of four changes for the Hammers this afternoon.
Aaron Cresswell and Michail Antonio return to the fold, while Jose Fonte comes into the centre of the Hammers' defence against his former club.
FLASHBACK! West Ham won this fixture last season, emerging 3-1 victors. Manolo Gabbiadini put the Saints ahead, but Andy Carroll equalised within two minutes. In the second half Bilic's men secured the three points thanks to strikes from Pedro Obiang and Mark Noble.
BREAKING TEAM NEWS! Winston Reid has suffered a calf injury during the warm-up and will be replaced in the Hammers' backline by Angelo Ogbonna.
WEST HAM UNITED (4-2-3-1): Hart; Zabaleta, Ogbonna, Fonte, Cresswell; Rice, Noble; Ayew, Antonio, Arnautovic; Hernandez.
The players are out on the pitch, so we should be underway shortly.
That's half-time and what a 45 minutes at St Mary's Stadium. Southampton deservedly led and West Ham have found themselves a man down following Marko Arnautovic's senseless elbow on Jack Stephens. The Hammers have a lifeline, though, Chicharito having pounced with a classic opportunistic finish from close range to narrow the deficit going into the break.
Southampton are likely to remain big favourites to see this one out. Mauricio Pellegrino will expect his players to settle after conceding against the run of play and take back control of the contest. Bilic, meanwhile, will be hoping his players can pull off an unlikely draw as he seeks to avoid the sustained criticism that accompanied a poor start to last season.
Lee Mason blows his whistle and Southampton have their first victory of the season and first under new manager Pellegrino. Agony for West Ham, who must have thought they'd done enough to earn a share of the spoils.
Southampton now have four points from two matches played, having drawn 0-0 against Swansea last time out. West Ham though remain without a point from two games. They were thumped 4-0 by Manchester United last weekend and come away from the south coast empty handed, too.
That's all we have time for today. Thanks for joining us for this live text commentary of Southampton 3-2 West Ham in the Premier League and we look forward to you joining us again soon!
